La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club begins second phase of $60M renovation

The redesign of 90 guest rooms is in progress, with completion expected in late May.

Fresh from completing the first phase of a $60 million renovation, the La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club has started the second phase, transforming 90 guest rooms by Memorial Day weekend.

The guest rooms will be entirely reimagined, taking inspiration from La Jolla’s coastal aesthetic.

Architecture firm Carrier Johnson will oversee the architectural enhancements, which include expanding bathrooms and kitchens, creating more view-focused spaces and introducing additional natural light; Oltra Design Studio, founded by Nicole Federico, has taken on the interiors, which will evoke the Torrey Pines landscape, early Spanish influences and sunshine.

La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club, which is celebrating its 90th year as a fifth-generation, family-owned and operated resort, will remain open during the guest room renovation, which will be completed in stages to avoid disruption.

Phase 1 renovations, which included a resurfaced and redone pool deck, tennis courts, outdoor gathering spaces and more, “have been very well received,” managing director Michael O’Donohue said in a press release.

“We are eager to bring that same energy to the guest rooms,” he added, wanting to give members and guests more reasons to return and stay.

“Every detail has been considered to ensure the experience inside aligns with the remarkable setting just outside their door.”
