Cala is locally-owned and will open this spring in the Arcade Building on Girard Avenue in The Village.
The cafe space left behind when Peet’s closed three weeks ago won’t be empty for long: La Jolla Realtor Amy de Leon will open Cala La Jolla Cafe in the Arcade Building on Girard Avenue in April.
The space will undergo light renovations before opening, de Leon told lajolla.ca.
The menu is still being sorted out, she said, adding Cala “will be a little more elevated food-wise” and will have local musicians playing live on certain days.
“We really want to be of service to the community,” de Leon said.
As for the name: “‘Cala’ means cove in Spanish and Italian,” she said; with the location’s proximity to La Jolla Cove, “I thought it would be fitting.”
