The move was planned before an eviction that prompted an unexpected closure as of mid-August; the new space will be an upgrade, the owner says.
Balanced Fitness & Health has closed its current location at 7680 Girard Ave and is preparing to move to 7825 Fay Ave with a goal to open mid-December.
The new address isn’t really that new: It’s the former address of La Jolla Sports Club, which closed in 2021 as Balanced Fitness owner Rodrigo Iglesias absorbed the business and opened in the Girard Avenue spot.

That Fay Avenue spot, which has largely remained empty since 2021 aside from a short-lived tenancy by a finance company, “has been the heart” of The Village of La Jolla “in regards to fitness,” Iglesias said.
“Going back there is part of being the core of the community,” he said, adding that it’s “full circle … to provide something that everybody’s been missing.”
The closure since mid-August at the current location, however, was unexpected; Iglesias had hoped to stay open until the December move but was evicted due to a dispute over nonpayment of a few months of rent during the first year of operation, he said, adding he unsuccessfully tried to keep the club open.
Property management company Strom Commercial did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The new lease had been signed well before the eviction, however, so Iglesias views the situation as “an opportunity to restart,” Iglesias said. “We still are really excited about it.”
The new location, one block north, will be expanded from the La Jolla Sports Club offerings and even beyond what Balanced Fitness features now, Iglesias said.
The updated space will feature a cryo chamber, infrared bed, sauna, massage chairs, a space for DNA testing and other blood work and more.
The “fresh start” will also allow the company to more completely lean into its motto of “balanced fitness,” Iglesias said, “the full scope of everything.”
The club is also teaming up with neighbors Brick & Bell Cafe for an indoor-outdoor space and more, he said.
All current memberships have been frozen and will be applied at the new space upon opening.
