Mandarin House on La Jolla Boulevard is adding to its mural collection, with a Tony Gwynn mural to be painted in the next few weeks.
Mandarin House owner Nelson Law entered a contest sponsored by Ground Floor Murals in partnership with AleSmith Brewing Company and won a Tony Gwynn mural in honor of the 25th anniversary of the late, famed San Diego Padres player’s 3,000th hit.
“I’ve been wanting to do a mural on the north wall for some time now,” Law said, “but couldn’t decide on what.”
A fan of the other Ground Floor Murals Padres pieces in San Diego, Law was encouraged to submit a contest entry by Mandarin House customer Tim Clark..
“At the moment, it felt like the perfect idea we were waiting for,” Law said. “I immediately went outside, recorded my video then hopped back on the cook line.”
The resultant engagement and support for Law’s participation in the contest excited him, he added.
“We are really happy to have won and are extremely honored to have ‘Mr. Padre’ memorialized on our wall here at the Mandarin House.”
