La Jolla’s MCASD awarded Prebys Foundation grant to support nonprofits

The “Arts Ecosystem: Venue and Space Grant” will facilitate affordable access to museum spaces; the deadline to apply is Nov 21.

The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego in La Jolla has launched its “MCASD Shared Spaces Initiative” following the award of a Prebys Foundation “Arts Ecosystem: Venue and Space Grant.”

MCASD is one of 61 local arts and culture organizations to be awarded the grant, which is designed to help protect San Diego’s vibrant arts scene from federal and state funding cuts, local budget shortfalls, donor fatigue and inflation.

The $200,000 grant and Shared Spaces initiative invites San Diego nonprofit arts organizations to apply to use various MCASD spaces for workshops, trainings, meetings, fundraisers, screenings, performances, exhibitions and other programming.

The initiative aims to enhance access to quality venues and spaces and help build the capacity of the arts and culture organizations activating these spaces.

Through the program, MCASD will waive rental fees and cover costs for event staff, security, cleaning services and basic AV equipment.

“We are grateful to the Prebys Foundation for providing this opportunity to share our extraordinary venue with the community,” Kathryn Kanjo, MCASD’s David C Copley director and chief executive, said in a press release, further stating the museum’s art, architecture and location will “elevate community events, attract new audiences for both our partner organizations and the museum, build bridges between the region’s diverse neighborhoods and support San Diego’s cultural economy.”
Participation in Shared Spaces is limited to 15 organizations and the application deadline is Friday, Nov 21. Click here to apply.
