If La Jolla Cove is the scenic postcard, La Jolla Shores Beach is the action-packed playground. This mile-long stretch of soft sand is widely considered one of the best family beaches in San Diego, offering gentle waves, ample space and a hub of aquatic activity.
Unlike the rocky coves nearby, The Shores provides a wide, sandy entry into the water, making it the premier spot for beginner surf lessons and stand-up paddleboarding. It is also the main launching point for kayak tours heading to the famous sea caves.
The beach is anchored by Kellogg Park, a grassy expanse with a large playground, making it easy to spend an entire day here. In the evenings, it becomes one of the few places in La Jolla where you can have a legal beach bonfire in one of the designated fire pits.
