The Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego has announced its fall exhibition: “Visiones Nocturnas: Queer Nightlife in Contemporary Art,” open from Saturday, Sept 19 through Sunday, Jan 10.
The exhibit seeks to highlight Latino artists and explore the intersection of queer nightlife and contemporary art through works that explore the physicality of these queer nightlife spaces (dance clubs, dive bars, backyards and bathhouses) as critical to building resilience and community.
“Visiones Nocturnas” showcases an intergenerational and international grouping of artists whose work encompasses painting, performance, photography, sculpture, textile, collage, video and more. Artists featured in the exhibition include: Laura Aguilar, Vani Aguilar, Juan Arango Palacios, Amina Cruz, Martine Gutierrez, Jesús Hilario-Reyes, Xandra Ibarra, Teresa Margolles, Xelestial Moreno-Luz, Andres Payan Estrada, Guadalupe Rosales, Joey Terrill and Isa Ybarra.
