Celebrating the Fourth of July in La Jolla is a solid move, with miles of beaches, a parade, a drone show and all the summer vibes that will make your memories outstanding. Here’s how to make your La Jolla 4th of July unforgettable in 2026:

Beach logistics for Independence Day

Scripps Park and scenic recreation

For a more urban, activity-full home base, set up at Scripps Park. The grass is a perfect place for games, gazing at the sea or resting in between ocean fun at La Jolla Cove. Scripps Park also has a comfort station with plenty of bathrooms and showers. Plus, the park is a block from The Village’s multitude of shops and restaurants.

Kellogg Park picnics and La Jolla Shores fire pits

Kellogg Park will be the go-to for most Fourth of July frolickers, with two comfort stations and the gentle La Jolla Shores Beach right there. You’ll find plenty of lifeguards to watch your swim, a shaded playground and The Map for entertainment and so much more.

Using the fire pits

A La Jolla beach bonfire is a quintessential summer experience for some, but there are caveats.

There are seven fire pits, or fire rings, at La Jolla Shores. The Shores is the only La Jolla beach with fire rings. Fire rings are first-come, first-served.

In La Jolla and across San Diego, beach fires can only be built in the concrete fire pits or contained within a portable, propane-fueled device for cooking. Beach fires are not allowed between midnight and 5 am.

Charcoal, clean wood and paper can only be burned in the fire rings – no pallets or trash allowed.

Fires must be attended at all times and extinguished with water (not sand) unless burned out.

Reserving your space early

We can’t overstate the importance of an early wake up call on the 4th of July: arriving before 8 am is crucial for beach space, fire pits and parking.

And remember: alcohol is not allowed at San Diego beaches or parks next to beaches, so leave that at home.

Beaumont Avenue 4th of July Parade

For a hometown celebration that brings thousands out to Bird Rock every year, check out the 47th annual Beaumont Avenue Fourth of July Parade.

The parade begins at 10 am Saturday, July 4, rolling down Beaumont Avenue from Camino de La Costa to Mira Monte, with neighborhood floats, community organizations and more waving at passersby, handing out candy and spreading patriotic cheer.

Many homes along Beaumont Avenue are also fully decorated for the holiday.

The theme this year is “Stars, Stripes and 250 Years of American Icons,” and organizers Sarah Eve Austin and Jason Hill hope to see “some real patriotism,” Austin said, from American heroes to icons like sports games, lemonade stands, music genres and more.

At the end of the parade route, the typical celebration with live music, games and food at Mira Monte will carry on long after the two-block parade.

The longstanding community event, completely volunteer-powered, will kick off your La Jolla 4th of July with inspiration and awe.

The afternoon lull: a beach break

While there are no fireworks in La Jolla and San Diego fireworks are a little too far away to enjoy from this coastal haven, there are still colorful, dazzling ways to enjoy the Fourth of July in La Jolla.

Once the sun sinks down past the water’s edge, it’s time for the drones! The “La Jolla Sky Show” is the premier July Fourth event in La Jolla, and this year’s 4th annual show is better than ever.

The free drone show will begin at 8:45 pm Saturday, July 4, launching from the La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club. This year’s spectacular will feature 500 drones, choreographed to accompanying music in a 15-minute show visible from Kellogg Park and various points around La Jolla, cloud-dependent.

Get to the sand early to watch (but know the show will also be livestreamed) the colorful renditions of patriotic and La Jolla-specific icons.
